Leadership Journey

My career has been defined not just by the software I’ve shipped, but by the engineering organisations I’ve helped build, the architectural decisions that shaped platforms at scale, and the teams I’ve enabled to do their best work. From early roles digitising cultural heritage in East Africa, through to leading engineering on platforms serving millions of users across Africa and the Middle East — every engagement has deepened my conviction that engineering leadership is the multiplier.

At Ayoba, I contributed to an Africa-focused messaging super-app that scaled across multiple countries. At Saudi Digital Bank, I led the delivery of core digital banking infrastructure with KYC compliance and real-time transaction processing. At Shoprite, Africa’s largest retailer, I led engineering on back-office and supply-chain systems that support operations at enterprise scale. At LexisNexis, I drove platform modernisation of legal technology used by practitioners across multiple regions.

In 2018, I founded Bright-Group to extend engineering leadership advisory and platform delivery to organisations that needed senior technical guidance without the overhead of a full-time internal hire. The firm has delivered across fintech, retail, and legal tech environments.

I am at my best leading distributed teams, setting architectural direction, and bridging the gap between business strategy and engineering execution — in environments where the stakes are high and delivery has to be both fast and right.
